Best Brunch Spots in the Cowichan Valley

Whether you’re gearing up for a wine tour or recovering from one the morning after, we’ve got you covered with this list of the best brunch spots in town. See our carefully curated list of the best brunch spots in the Cowichan Valley below.

Arguably the best brunch spot in town, Brunch on Third is the go to for many locals and here’s why. The restaurant was opened in 2019 by a group of ladies that had all worked together for years and decided it was time to start their own venture. They picked the cutest location, a converted heritage home in the heart of downtown Duncan. There is a cozy, charming vibe when you walk in and they have two lovely patio sections to choose from when the sun is shining. Their menu is full of delicious brunch classics but what we are most impressed by is their flight selection. Start your day right with their mimosa, caesar and shaft flights! You’ll usually find a line here on the weekend so be sure to get here early.

If you’re looking for an elevated brunch experience, the Alpina Restaurant at the Villa Eyrie is pretty unbeatable in all regards. Located at the south edge of the Cowichan Valley on the summit of the Malahat, the Alpina Restaurant boasts the most spectacular panoramic views of the Georgia straight and surrounding gulf islands. The service and menu is just as spectacular with seasonal specials and an impressive selection of drinks. It’s the perfect choice if you’re celebrating something special or just feeling a little fancy. Pro tip: leave this spot for a clear day so you can make the most of the gorgeous views.

The perfect place to grab a bite to eat and a drink or two if you’re in Shawnigan Lake. Walk into the venue and you’ll find a wood cabin style wrap around bar with plenty of seating and a beautiful view of the lake. This spot is a hit for locals and visitors alike. Their brunch menu includes the classics like eggs benny, and chicken and waffles. After brunch, check out their dock below for a little sun bathing or a dip in the lake. The Lakehouse isn’t just a hit for brunch, they have a great menu for lunch and dinner too.

Located in a historic building in downtown Duncan, this cafe was once a garage and vehicle repair shop. It is now a beloved vegetarian cafe and restaurant. The garage is always bustling with locals sharing a coffee and a delicious baked good. They have a wide selection of baked goods, salads, coffees and desserts. Their breakfast offers usually include things like breakfast burritos, pancakes and more. They’re also known for having great vegan and gluten free options. The heritage building is home to a handful of local shops too, making it an interesting location to check out.

Westfalian Bakery Cafe

If you’re not looking closely, you would probably miss this little gem of a bakery. Head down the alley across from the Doctor’s office dotted with plants and eclectic artwork. Head through the yellow door and you’ll find a little bakery with a great selection of croissants and other pastries. If sweets in the morning aren’t your thing they have a good selection of savoury options too. Beware there is usually a line first thing in the morning when they open so be sure to get there early and give yourself enough time to wait. This place is known for their croissants but something that tends to fly under the radar are their amazing coffees. So be sure to get a latte with your breakfast of choice.
